SUDBURY -- Turn up the heat and plug in those cars!

Extreme Cold Warnings are in effect Thursday for most of northern Ontario.

Bitterly cold winds are expected to produce temperatures below -40 C overnight and into Friday morning.

Temperatures are expected to rise on Friday.

These conditions elevate the risk for frostbite and hypothermia, so make sure when you are outdoors you are dressed appropriately.

Officials recommend keeping emergency supplies, such as extra blankets and jumper cables, in your vehicle.

Don’t let all the sunshine we’ll see Thursday fool you… its very cold!

People that work outdoors should take regularly scheduled breaks to warm up.

If it is too cold for you to stay outside, it is too cold for your pet as well.
