Many communities across Northern Ontario are under an extreme cold warning.

The alert was issued by Environment Canada for:

  • Timmins- Cochrane
  • Moosonee- Fort Albany
  • Kapuskasing- Hearst
  • Attawapiskat
  • Big Trout Lake- Sachigo Lake
  • Fort Hope- Webequie
  • Fort Severn
  • Geraldton- Manitouwadge- Hornepayne
  • Lake Nipigon- Wabakimi
  • Peawanuck
  • Pickle Lake- Waunnummin Lake
  • Sandy Lake- Pikangikum

As the wind gusts up to 50 kilometres per hour in some places, wind chill values near -40C to -45C are expected Wednesday morning before they moderate later in the afternoon.

However, the cold Artic air mass will remain in place through the weekend and possibly into next week.

With these wind chill values many communities are seeing a risk of frostbite, so make sure to dress accordingly.
