A 33-year-old suspect already on probation for weapons offences has been charged with threatening death and assault with a weapon.

In a news release Friday, Ontario Provincial Police in Espanola said they were contacted March 7 at 3:34 p.m. about a threat complaint at a residence on Highway 17 in Baldwin Township.

A person on probation and a release order for weapons offences was arrested for assault with a weapon and firearms offences in Baldwin Township.

“During the investigation, police determined a person was assaulted and threatened with death,” the release said.

“A firearm was also located by police and a cruiser was damaged by the person following their arrest.”

The Baldwin Township suspect was charged with assault with a weapon, uttering threats, failing to comply with a probation and release order, two counts of weapons or ammunition possession, causing a disturbance and mischief under $5,000.

The accused was released following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear April 17 at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola.
