SUDBURY -- A 16-year-old from Elliot Lake has been charged with attempted murder following an incident March 11.

East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were called at 10:24 p.m. regarding a stabbing in which the victim had been rushed to hospital.

"The incident took place at the corner of Axmith Avenue and Frame Crescent in the City of Elliot Lake," police said in a news release Friday. "The victim sustained serious injuries and is recovering in a local hospital."

The investigation is being conducted by the East Algoma OPP Crime Unit with the assistance from the OPP Forensic Identifications Service, the OPP's North East Canine Unit and members from the OPP's Emergency Response Team.

The 16-year-old suspect is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. The teen appeared in court March 12 and was remanded into custody.
