A 62-year-old man from Elliot Lake, Ont., is facing multiple charges – including assault with a weapon – following an altercation with provincial police earlier this week.

The charges stem from an incident on July 2 in which police were called to a neighbour dispute at a Forest Place residence.

“When officers attempted to speak to one of the people involved, the person threatened police with a large dagger-style knife in hand,” said police in a news release.

“After effective de-escalation communication, police were able to safely apprehend the person.”

As a result of the incident, the 62-year-old local man was charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and obstructing a peace officer.

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15.

None of the accusations has been proven in court.
