Electric scooter driver in Timmins in serious condition after being struck by SUV

Timmins police say a man driving an electric scooter was struck Tuesday evening in a residential area at the intersection of Preston Street and Montgomery Avenue.

Police officials said the scooter driver is in serious condition in hospital.

"The collision involved an SUV driven by a 23-year-old Timmins woman and a 29-year-old Timmins man operating an electric scooter," police said in a news release Wednesday.

"The root cause of the collision is being determined through investigation led by the Timmins police traffic services section with the assistance of scenes of crime officers."

Both vehicles involved in the collision remain in the custody of the Timmins police for the "purposes of respective mechanical fitness appraisals," the release said.

Police are asking any independent witnesses to the crash to come forward to help with the investigation by calling 705-264-1201.

"At present, no charges have been laid but the investigation is continuing," police said.
