Eight arrested in Timmins police standoff after 911 call
Timmins police arrested eight people on various charges including kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder following a 15-hour standoff on the weekend.
Officers from both Timmins Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police responded to a 911 distress call made shortly before 2 p.m. March 23 from the Carrigan Road area in the east end of the city, a news release said Monday.
A home was contained by both emergency response teams while officers made contact with people inside.
"Several occupants did exit the residence and were arrested," Timmins police said.
"The Ontario Provincial Police tactical response unit (TRU) was then contacted to assist in getting the remaining occupants out of the house and clearing the residence."
The last two people inside the home exited shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday and were taken into custody.
"The house was then cleared and turned back over to the Timmins Police Service for further investigation," the news release said.
Police said the eight suspects are charged with assault, assault with a weapon, kidnapping, conspiracy to commit murder and firearm-related offences.
Two suspects were released while six are being held in custody.
No one was injured in the incident, Staff Sgt. Chad Lilko told CTVNewsNorthernOntario.ca in an email Monday afternoon.
