A 37-year-old Sudbury man heading to the airport Sunday with his buddies for a trip south ended up in the holding cells of the Southern Georgian Bay OPP detachment.

Police were called at 1:53 a.m. to a section of Highway 400 in Tay Township after a limousine headed to the airport developed mechanical problems.

“An intoxicated passenger decided to make his way from the limo in an attempt to thumb a ride on Highway 400,” the OPP said in a news release Monday.

“The clearly intoxicated pedestrian was apprehended by several officers and taken to detachment for a period of time and later released when sober with a ticket in contravention of the Liquor Licence and Control Act.”
