SUDBURY -- Police have reopened Highway 17 in both directions Tuesday afternoon following a transport rollover east of the RR55 intersection near Coniston.

The 49-year-old driver from East Farnham, Que. has been charged with careless driving in connection to the incident.

Officers were called to the single-vehicle collision at 7:30 a.m. east of the traffic lights at the intersection of The Kingsway and Highway 17 bypass.

"Investigation revealed the tractor-trailer was eastbound on the Highway 17 southeast by-pass and subsequently rolled-over after exiting onto the ramp to continue east on Highway 17," said Ontario Provincial Police in a news release.

As a result of the crash, the transport spilled the load of lumber it was carrying, blocking both lanes of the road.

"The driver, and lone occupant, was not injured," said OPP.

Detours were set up through Garson-Coniston Road to Falconbridge Road, Second or Moonlight Avenues to Bancroft Drive.

The Ministry of the Environment was called to the scene to clean up the diesel spill, which was contained.

Highway 17 was closed for five hours while crews cleaned up the debris and removed the wreckage.

Motorists are reminded to obey the road closure signs.
