SUDBURY -- A North Bay company that works in the mining and construction industries, has announced layoffs due to restructuring during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Epiroc announced Wednesday that its North Bay production facility is being transitioned into a distribution center. The move will see 65 jobs eliminated from the facility.

“We regret that we have to let people go, but we must adapt to changing market conditions so the company is strong for the future," said Denis Landry, vice president of exploration at Epiroc, in a statement.

Production previously done at the facility will be moved to its locations in Montreal and Sweden. The company says the change reflects the challenging business climate that existed prior to the global pandemic, which now reinforces the need to increase efficiency.

Any employees working in the engineering, sales and product management teams in North Bay will remain.
