UPDATE:

The decision will go back to council on January 9, 2018.

Sudbury city council passed a motion Wednesday evening to defer the decision for the site of a new multi-use facility to be built downtown.

City staff recommended three projects be housed in one site and will include:

·         art gallery and library

·         convention and performing arts centre

·         Place des arts

A report, assessing the potential site locations, was released last week and some council members felt they needed more time to consider the information presented.

The report recommends using the current Sudbury Arena land once the Kingsway Entertainment District is complete.

If council agrees with the recommendations, the arena would be torn down when vacant and a new $110-million building would be built in its place.

Councilor Deb McIntosh made the motion to defer, ending in a nine to four victory.
