Two people have died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 655 north of Timmins early Sunday, police say.

Officers from the James Bay detachment were called to the scene of a serious collision in Nesbitt Township around 12:30 a.m. June 4, Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Monday.

The highway was closed for several hours and the investigation is continuing.

No word on the cause of the crash or identities of the victims.

OPP is also still investigating a head-on collision involving two passenger vehicles on Highway 11 in Val Rita, between Hearst and Kapuskasing, last Friday.

It happened around 10 a.m. June 2  just west of Dagenais Road and resulted in both drivers being airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
