CWL members celebrate faith and service at Greater Sudbury convention

Over 250 members of the Catholic Women’s League of Canada, also known as the CWL, are in Greater Sudbury for its 77th annual convention.

To welcome the delegates and recognize the efforts of the CWL there was a flag-raising ceremony and the reading of an official proclamation at city hall on Friday morning.

Throughout the convention, delegates will learn about the impact of the CWL in their communities and consider resolutions for positive change with a focus on mental health and its root cause of many social issues.

“The Catholic Women’s League because it’s local it doesn’t have one single project,” said Bishop Thomas Dowd, Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie and the spiritual advisor for the Ontario Provincial Council.

“It’s a gathering of women of faith as I say, they will see what the needs are in their local communities and contribute accordingly.”

The CWL’s Ontario Provincial President is from Sudbury and she will end her two-year term during the convention.

“The theme during my term was ‘Go Make a Difference’ and I asked the members in Ontario to find a project that they could do to of their own choosing to make a noticeable difference in their community in their society,” said Linda Squarzolo, CWL Ontario President.

Over the next five days, CWL members will take part in information sessions, a sunrise ceremony and local tours. The group will also make a donation to a local Ukrainian Catholic Church for efforts to help the people of Ukraine.
