Current number of active COVID-19 cases in northeastern Ontario
As the novel coronavirus pandemic continues, CTV News Northern Ontario is continuing to keep track of the number of active cases of COVID-19 in the northeast region. Check back often for daily updates on the number of new, active and resolved cases.
There are 731 active cases of COVID-19 in northeastern Ontario as of Nov. 28 at 5:45 p.m.
Novel coronavirus infections are reported by public health agencies for residents that live within the districts. The number of active cases comes from the total confirmed positive less cases that have been resolved, including deaths. In northeastern Ontario, there are five health units and here is the change in the number of cases since last updated:
Algoma Public Health - 40 new
Timiskaming Health Unit - 2 new
Several COVID-19 outbreaks have been declared in the Sudbury area, including two new ones: Sudbury Lady Wolves U13 BB team and Dance Evolution Sudbury. A full list of outbreaks can be found here.

In northeastern Ontario, as of Friday at 2 p.m., there are 21 patients with COVID-19 at Health Sciences North, seven in the intensive care unit (ICU), and 17 other people have been tested and are awaiting their results.
There are also 14 hospitalizations related COVID-19 in the Algoma area, zero COVID-related hospitalizations in the North Bay Parry Sound area and two in the Timiskaming District. Information on hospitalizations in the Cochrane District has not been made available.
Health units in Sault Ste. Marie and Sudbury have reimposed restrcitions to try and get case counts under control. On Friday, Public Health Sudbury & Districts is tightening restrictions in the area in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19. It issued work-from-home instructions and plan to offer rapid testing to students on a voluntary basis.
