SUDBURY -- The Porcupine Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Golden Manor long-term care home in Timmins.

One resident, without symptoms, has tested positive.

All residents and staff were tested on the weekend as part of the COVID-19 surveillance testing in long-term care homes across the region.

“We are all committed to ensuring the supports are in place to protect residents and staff in this home and will continue to monitor the results as they come in,” said Dr. Lianne Catton, Medical Officer of Health, for the PHU.

The health unit says the risk of infection in the long-term care home remains low.

While the word "outbreak" sounds concerning, the Ontario Ministry of Health requires the designation after just one confirmed case at a facility.
