SUDBURY -- Rainbow District School Board has confirmed a case of COVID-19 in the daycare located at Algonquin Road Public School in Sudbury's South End.
A letter was sent to families Tuesday morning advising of the infection.
"Relevant staff and the parents/guardians of children who are required to self-isolate have been notified," Norm Blaseg, the school board's director of education, said in the letter. "Public Health Sudbury & Districts will follow up directly with close contacts.
According to the board, public health said because there is no evidence of transmission within the facility the daycare remains open, as well as the before and after school programs.
"Enhanced cleaning and disinfecting will take place throughout the school, including the daycare, before classes begin (Tuesday) morning," Blaseg said. "While the school does not operate the daycare, it is an important part of our school community."
As of Monday afternoon, there are eight active cases of COVID-19 in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts. Since the pandemic began, there have been 230 positive cases, with 104 just in November, and 222 cases have been resolved including two deaths. The last death was May 15.
Public Health Sudbury & Districts is currently listed as Yellow - Protect under Ontario's COVID-19 response framework after a big spike following Halloween.
Since the school year began, there have been three Greater Sudbury schools within the Rainbow District School Board with confirmed cases of COVID-19 among students, Lo-Ellen Park Secondary, Lasalle Secondary and Northeastern Elementary. All cases have been resolved.
