The man accused of the 1998 murder of Renee Sweeney will make a brief court appearance Thursday via video link from the Sudbury Jail.

Robert Steven Wright, 39, is charged with first degree murder.

On January 27, 1998 around 11 am, Sweeney, 23, was working at an adult video store on Paris Street when she was brutally attacked and stabbed to death.

20 years later, Greater Sudbury Police announced an arrest in the case at a news conference at police headquarters on December 12th, 2018.

Wright was an 18-year-old high school student at Lockerby Composite at the time of the murder. He was arrested at the North Bay Regional Health Centre, where he worked as a lab technician.

Thursday’s appearance is an update in the court process.

Wright's defence lawyer, Berk Keaney, confirms they will be seeking bail in this case.

A bail hearing is set for later this month.
