Courageous teen shares new cookbook
A grade 12 student from Lasalle Secondary School in Sudbury who has been cooking since kindergarten now has his own cookbook.
Ty Chauvin has faced a difficult health journey living with multiple health issues that have required surgery.
Through it all, he said, cooking brought him joy and strength and now he's sharing his culinary journey.
'My Wish on a Plate! Just Ty It!' combines the 18-year-old’s favourite recipes with others from family and friends. Chauvin told CTV News he is thrilled to have his own published cookbook thanks to Make-A-Wish Canada.
"I am so happy the way the community loves it and it's very personable in the way I wrote it,” said Chauvin.
“I had the help of friends and family to help me make it and make new recipes."

Chauvin was born with a heart condition, neuromuscular syndrome and scoliosis. He endured a 12-hour surgery in 2022, recovering in intensive care. He said thinking about and making the cookbook was a positive outlet during a difficult time.
"It really took my mind off everything. The stress of surgery coming up for scoliosis. So that really took my mind off it and it made me forget it and it made me happier," said Chauvin.
Ty has been cooking with his father since he was five-years-old.
"We lived through quite a bit during covid with Ty's health and those kind of things,” said said Ty's father, Bernie Chauvin.
“It was a good pick me up to focus on things other than just his health. It sort of changed our mind, our mindset, it was a feel-good story."
Ty said he hopes the book inspires people to try cooking and new recipes.
"I love the freedom of it. There are no rules," said Ty.
The cookbook sells for $40 and can be ordered online at www.mywishonaplate.com.
Ty said some of the proceeds from the sale of the cookbook will be donated to three organizations that are dear to his heart; Make-A-Wish® Canada, The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, and Neo Kids in Greater Sudbury.
