TIMMINS – Staff members and students from Timmins High and Vocational School hosted a car wash on Saturday morning to help a student who has been battling cancer.

"Very good student. The family is a wonderful family at our school. He attends regularly and he's just an average student in the sense, but a really really nice guy. All the students love him, the teachers love him… we just really appreciate the family as well so we just want to give back," said Greg Vincze, Timmins High and Vocational School Principle.

Vincze says this is the second car wash and barbecue event in support of the student. The one they had two years ago raised $12,000 and it all went to the family.

"Sometimes we look at life and things are grim in the world or whatever the case may be and yet, you know we have all these people volunteering to help one family in our community. Community members have volunteered, businesses, local businesses… it's very heartwarming, very encouraging," he continued.

"It really sucks seeing someone you know suffer from such a horrible disease and I just want to be able to help him," said Ryan Hodgins, grade 11 student.

Another grade 11 student Kathleen Clarke said, "I came out because I heard it was for a kid from the school who got cancer back, and I have been here from September, I just transferred, but you know I felt really bad… I was like yeah, I'll come out even though it's eight o'clock in the morning."

The school wants to respect the privacy of the family by not mentioning his name, but they still want to show they care by having this event.
