SUDBURY -- A 55-year-old Cobalt man is facing numerous charges in connection with online luring of a young person under the age of 16.

In a news release Thursday, Temiskaming OPP said they arrested the man at a residence at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.

"Officers had commenced an investigation into alleged sexual offences that occurred between March 16 and May 13, in the Town of Cobalt," the release said.

The OPP says it is not releasing the gender of the victim.

The man is now charged with:

  • Luring a person under 18 years of age by means of telecommunication.
  • Transmitting sexually explicit material to a person under 16 years of age.
  • Indecent exposure to a person under 16 years of age.
  • Two counts of luring a person under 16 years of age by means of telecommunication.
  • Voyeurism

Making the arrests were Temiskaming crime unit of the OPP, the child sexual exploitation unit and the digital forensic unit.

"The accused was held for a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date in the City of Temiskaming Shores," the release said.
