Cliff jumping incident leaves one man dead
SUDBURY -- One person has died after jumping from a high rock face in the municipality of French River.
According to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), it happened Saturday Aug. 1, at around 5:30 p.m. at Devil's Bay on Eighteen Mile Island.
Brett Haines, 25-years-old from Udora, near Port Perry, was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Foul play is not suspected.
Preliminary investigation results have discovered that two people jumped off a 34-feet-high rock face into the water below without incident. Haines subsequently jumped and was then found unconscious.
The investigation is ongoing along with the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
