SAULT STE. MARIE -- If you ride a mountain bike in the Sault, the city wants to hear from you.

It's launching a survey asking riders what they want to see as part of its 75 km expansion of the Algoma district's biking trails.

"This is a very exciting initiative, one that we think will help grow the city," said Travis Anderson, the city's Director of Tourism & Community Development.

"We hope to be able to complete phase one, roughly 35 km of this expansion with the help of this survey."

Anderson says the city is asking for direction on what types of trails the community wants, whether difficult or beginner level.

With the bicycle boom that the Sault is seeing due to the pandemic, Anderson says the city hopes to capitalize on that interest.

"We're hoping to get a positive upswing from this and hopefully we've really done the work to attract people once things settle down," he said.

The city is also taking direction from many partners, including the Sault Cycling Club.

"Perhaps I'm a little selfish, but I'd like to see some really tough trails up here for the extra challenge," jokingly said Mark Santana, the club president.

"I think there's a large, dedicated cycling community that's only just starting to bloom, so this will be huge to grow that further."
