SUDBURY -- Members of a local social advocacy group in Sudbury were worried about losing their funding as the city's budget deliberations are on, but they got some good news Tuesday night.

The city will be keeping its $50,000 grant to the Social Planning Council of Sudbury in place.

The funding goes towards paying necessary administrative costs, while the money for various programs comes from private sources.

Sudbury's social planning council works to build community in social housing, and there was concern that the loss of the city grant would lead to lay-offs of five staff.

City council is looking over a proposal for a 3.5 per cent tax hike for property owners in 2020, but that could change as budget talks continue.
