SUDBURY -- A child attending the YMCA's Markstay Early Learning Child Care Centre (Sudbury District) has tested positive for COVID-19, the YMCA has confirmed.

"Unfortunately, last night we were advised by Public Health Sudbury and District that one of the children at our Markstay Early Learning Child Care Centre (Sudbury District) was confirmed with a positive case of COVID-19," said a post on YMCA of Northeastern Ontario's website from CEO Helen Francis.

"I know this news is very unsettling, but I want to reassure you that we are working diligently with Public Health Sudbury and District. All participants at risk of exposure have been contacted by Public Health and are following their direction."

The centre has been closed and staff and children at risk are self-isolating for 14 days, following direction from Public Health.

A deep cleaning and disinfecting of the child care centre occurred last night, the YMCA said.

"We will re-open and welcome staff and children back to the program upon approval from Public Health," Francis said in the post.

"I want to reassure you that we will continue to keep you informed of any new updates. In keeping with our core values, being transparent is paramount, that is why we are informing all YMCA staff, families and we prepared a public statement which is posted on our website."
