SUDBURY -- A 56-year-old Chelmsford man has been charged in connection with a road rage incident in which a woman was struck in the face by a partially filled water bottle.

Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police responded to the call around 3:45 p.m. on July 27.

"Investigation revealed the victim was a passenger in their vehicle which was eastbound on Highway 17, just east of Nairn Centre," police said in a news release. "While they were passing an eastbound van, the driver of the van threw a partially filled plastic water bottle at the passenger, striking her in the face."

The victim was not injured, and police later found the van on Highway 144 in Greater Sudbury. They have charged a 56-year-old Chelmsford man with assault with a weapon.

He is scheduled to return to court Sept. 2 to answer to the charge.
