SUDBURY -- After a tip from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Greater Sudbury Police have charged a 30-year-old man from Chelmsford with accessing and possession of child pornography.

The tip from American officials to Sudbury's Internet Child Exploitation (I.C.E.) unit was that a person in Greater Sudbury had been accessing and possessing child pornography online over a period of several years.

Police executed two search warrants Dec. 10 at two residences in the city and charged the 30-year-old with 37 counts of accessing child pornography and three counts of possessing child pornography.

He will appear in bail court on Dec. 11.

The Greater Sudbury Police Service I.C.E. unit is part of the Ontario Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet.
