Sudbury police say that a 78-year-old man has been charged in a fatal crash on June 3, 2019 on Sudbury's MR80 in the community of Val Caron.

The man, who has not been named by police, has been charged with two careless driving related offences.

A 77-year-old Sudbury woman died in hospital from inuries sustained in the incident, while two others received minor injuries.

The accused is scheduled to appear in Sudbury court on July 15 at 10 am.

Sudbury police thank the witnessses that came forward and provided assistance to their investigation.

Greater Sudbury Police Service is looking for witnesses in a fatal crash that happened Monday on MR80 in the Greater Sudbury community of Val Caron.

They say it happened around 2:05 pm on June 3 in the northbound lanes of MR80, when a commercial vehicle, that was stopped on the side of the road, was hit by a grey, four-door sedan.

Two people were in front of the unoccupied truck performing maintenance work at the time of the collision and were uninjured.

Three people in the sedan were injured in the crash. The driver and one passenger were treated for minor injuries, while the second passenger, a 77-year-old Sudbury woman, died in hospital after succumbing to her injuries.

The family has requested that her name not be released.
