Care-A-Thon hits airwaves Thursday to support Maison McCulloch Hospice
On Thursday, Pure Country 91.7 and the Maison McCulloch Hospice will host the annual Care-A-Thon. All of the money raised will support the local hospice.
It’s the 5th annual Care-A-Thon, which has raised close to $800,000 for the hospice and is a key fundraising event for the facility.
“Our hospice runs on the generosity of our community the generosity of our volunteers,” said Julie Aube, Maison McCulloch Hospice executive director.
“Bottom line: we fall short on our funding by $1.4 million a year. That is literally to fund operating costs, keep our doors open, keep the lights on, heating, water, etc. And this is where events like the Care-A-Thon come into play.”
Radio hosts Coop and Josh will hit the airwaves at 6 a.m. until noon and will be joined by the executive director of the hospice.
They invite the community to call in a pledge or make donations online to help reach this year’s goal of raising $100,000.
“While they get some funding, not all of the funding is covered and so that’s why an initiative like this become so incredibly important and that’s why this $100,000 has to be raised,” Coop said.
“And we can’t do it without the help of our wonderful and very generous Sudbury community listeners from Pure Country Radio or viewers for CTV -- we cannot do it without the community’s help.”
Organizers said Desjardins is the title sponsor of the event.
