SUDBURY -- Canadian author Camilla Gibb will be in Sudbury this week for the northern Ontario premiere of a film adapted from her 2005 novel titled Sweetness in the Belly.

The event is presented by Wordstock Literary Festival, Greater Sudbury Public Library and the Sudbury Indie Cinema.

Gibb has penned four widely-praised novels and is the recipient of multiple awards including: a Trillium Book Award, City of Toronto Book Award and the CBC Canadian Literary Award.

She has also been shortlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize.

While the adapted-novel, Sweetness in the Belly, was published in the 2005 and not optioned for movie rights until 2010, the film would take nearly a decade to be completed.

The film, starring Dakota Fanning, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in 2019 where it was nominated for Best Canadian Feature.

There are two scheduled screenings on Oct.22 at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., both of which will have moderated discussions with the novelist afterwards.

The discussions will focus on the book-to-film adaptation and will be moderated by Indie Cinema lead programmer Beth Mairs.

In order to maintain physical distancing requirements, the cinema's 180-seat venue will seat a maximum of 40 audience members with masks or face covering mandatory for admission.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased on the event's booking site.
