Camera catches Elliot Lake, Ont., retirement home worker searching resident's wallet, drawers

A 42-year-old employee of a retirement home in northern Ontario has been charged with theft and other offences after a suspicious resident set up a camera in their room.
The tenant of the room had been a victim of theft three weeks earlier and decided to activate the camera Nov. 2 before they went to breakfast.
"A retirement home employee was caught entering the tenant's room unauthorized and going through drawers and a wallet," Ontario Provincial Police said in a news release Wednesday.
"The tenant reported the matter to the retirement home administrative director and the East Algoma Ontario Provincial Police were later called. The employee was subsequently arrested on Nov. 5."
Charges include break and enter and criminal breach of trust. The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on Dec. 12.
