3 children hit by vehicle in Lethbridge

Three children, all students of Lethbridge's Holy Spirit Catholic School Division were struck by a vehicle on Jan. 20, 2025. Police say charges are pending against the driver.

Three children were injured when they were struck by a vehicle in Lethbridge’s north end on Monday.

Officials say a 14-year-old, seven-year-old and a five-year-old were crossing at the intersection of 13 Avenue and 23 Street North and were in a marked crosswalk when they were hit by a vehicle.

All three were taken to Chinook Regional Hospital but were subsequently taken to Calgary for further treatment.

The driver remained at the scene.

The children were on their way to their school bus when they were hit by the vehicle, said a statement from Lethbridge’s Holy Spirit Catholic School Division.

“The family of those students involved has been informed and police and emergency services were deployed,” the statement read.

“We can confirm that a Southland bus transporting Holy Spirit students was in the vicinity at the time of the incident but was not involved in the collision. Those on the bus may have been witnesses.

“In response, Holy Spirit Catholic School Division would like to extend our thoughts and prayers to those affected. As always, the well-being of our students, staff and families is our number one priority. To support those in need, there are on-site counselling services available at our schools.

“Please reach out to your school principal if you have any questions, concerns, or are in need of support.”

Police say charges are pending.
