Calgary man arrested in connection with more than a dozen robberies

Calgary police seized two fake guns as well as a quantity of cigarettes and vape products as a result of an investigation into multiple robberies in Calgary and Edmonton. (Supplied)

Police say charges have been laid against a 19-year-old man in connection with a series of robberies that targeted cannabis and convenience stores in Calgary and Edmonton.

In November, investigators looking into the case linked the incidents to one suspect.

On Dec. 16, authorities arrested a man in a northeast Calgary parking lot.

It's believed he is responsible for 17 robberies in Calgary and four in Edmonton.

All of the robberies took place between Sept. 1 and Dec. 16, police said.

Officials add the accused disguised himself using fake beards, moustaches, hats, sunglasses, masks and wigs during the incidents.

Following the arrest, police executed a search warrant on a home in the 8300 block of Saddlebrook Drive N.E., a storage unit in the 2100 block of 23 Street N.E. and a vehicle.

Police seized an Airsoft gun, a replica Airsoft gun, two homemade stun guns, brass knuckles and multiple disguises. Authorities also recovered cigarettes and vape products.

Ramy Khattab is charged with 13 counts of robbery using a firearm, nine counts of robbery, nine counts of unlawful confinement, 21 counts of disguise with intent, 10 counts of intimidation, 18 counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, pointing a firearm and two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon.

He is expected in court on Dec. 23.
