Update:

Whether you like them flame broiled, or with a slice of cheese, or piled high with extras...this event is calling all burger lovers...

Mitch Speigel is one of the organizers behind "burger wars, " who says although this is a first for Sudbury,  it's not a new idea.

"It came to me from my visit to Wolfville, Nova Scotia where they've been doing it for some years, and we just happened to arrive in the midst of the war  and i just thought that was a wonderful idea," said Speigel

Speigel says after hearing that the town of roughly five- thousand  was able to raise 14 thousand dollars for a local children's charity each summer, he knew it would see great success in the Nickel City.

During the month of August, 34 restaurants will feature a special burger on their menus.  Organizers say it’s an easy event to be a part of.

"Go eat, walk into any of our restaurants there on our website "SudburyBurgerWars.com," choose one and there are descriptions there choose one go have a burger they will donate one dollar for your burger every time you do that to neo kids," said Speigel.

Shanna Crispo of the Neo Kids foundation says *Neo Kids*  provides treatment to over 40 thousand children from across Northern Ontario at Health Sciences North.

And, she says third party fundraising events like this are crucial for the foundation.

"We do rely on our community to help support us and our neo kids who are receiving treatment. So third party events such as this one are key to the success of Neo Kids in ensuring that we do raise important dollars here in Sudbury," said Crispo

Members of the community are invited to try as many burgers as they can over the next month....and be part of the burger war, knowing it'll be raising money to help kids

Original story:

During the month of August 34 local restaurants in Sudbury will be participating in a Burger War. One dollar from each burger sold during the month will be donated to the NEO Kids Foundation.

The idea for the event came from organizing committee member Mitch Speigel.  "My daughter and her family live in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, it's a beautiful town which we visit often.  On one recent visit, we arrived in the middle of a 'war', a 'Burger War'.  Every restaurant, and there are many, had a poster and tent cards advertising their special burger.  For every one of these burgers sold, a dollar would be going to a local children's charity.  What fun!  I even tried a sweet-and-sour burger at the Chinese restaurant.  Apparently, the idea was borrowed from PEI and I thought to myself, why not re-borrow the concept for Sudbury."
