Despite a sometimes misunderstood ne'er-do-well reputation of bikers, roughly 80 motorcyclists from the Algoma region took part in the 26th Annual 'Toy Run for Women in Crisis'.

The event was hosted by the Biker’s Rights Organization.

One by one, roadsters, cruisers and sports bikes pulled out of the Esso on Trunk Road and headed east.

Toys were strapped onto the back and front of bikes before being dropped off for the charity.

"We collect toys for women in crisis, and personal hygiene items and stuff to help them," said Bev Beauchamp, Toy Run Organizer.

Bikers say most of them do not have a connection to the organization, but rather just want to help out.

"It's for a good cause... it's nice to see our money actuall making a difference in Sault Ste. Marie," said Dan Bruce, biker.

"Anybody that rides a motorcycle has a big heart, and we're all a tight knit community, and it doesn't matter who it is, that's just the way it is. They will help anybody and do anything for anyone," said Brad Dorans, biker.

After the ride, the bikers dropped off the toys for the shelter and ate at a barbecue.

"It just gives him that something to hold at night, whether it be they can't sleep... they get to choose the stuffed animals so they may really have that kind of connection with that stuffed animal," said Julie Strachan, Women in Crisis.

The staff at Women in Crisis say the 100+ stuffed animals they received today will last roughly a year.
