Anyone with a bike they no longer need or has one that doesn’t work anymore is encouraged to donate it to Discovery Routes North Bay; a local charity group.

Discovery Routes has tuned up and given back more than 850 used bikes to North Bay residents in its eight years of its existence.

The group wants to get more people to experience local trails North Bay and area has to offer, and know that good-fitting bicycles are hard for some people to afford.

With so many bike donations pouring in, those with the group told CTV News they also need volunteers to keep things running.

“We need volunteers not just to tune bikes but to help with some of the logistics of the program, really anybody who has any desire to help out with the program,” said Discovery Routes executive director, Jennifer McCourt.

“They are the ones that tune up the bikes, clean up the bikes make sure they’re safe for the road and the trails. They collect the bikes, track the bikes, we have all different sorts of things,” she said.

Those who have a bike to donate can drop it off the Laurentian Ski Hill on Wednesdays between 3:00 and 6:00pm in May and June.
