Police in Sault Ste. Marie are looking into reports of three people impersonating Ontario SPCA ‘officers.'

Witnesses say the trio, consisting of two women and a man, have been spotted driving around the city wearing dark blue uniform-like clothing.

Two different vans have been spotted, one dark coloured with yellow lettering or logo and a white van with blue OSPCA lettering and an image of a cat and dog.

Officials say they've tried to coerce pet owners into giving up their pets by approaching homes in the area and asking for information about their animals.

The Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society says to ask for identification if approached.
