Attack on Sault snow plow driver escalates from a shovel to a firearm

Share

One person is in custody following a violent attack on a snow plow driver last week in Sault Ste. Marie.

The incident began Dec. 13 when a 911 call at 7 a.m. reported that a gun was being pointed at a snow plow driver outside of a residence on Alexandra Street.

"An investigation revealed the accused had approached the snow removal vehicle and began hitting it with a shovel before opening the door and attempting to strike the driver with the shovel," police said in a news release Monday.

"Once the victim was able to get the accused out of the vehicle and lock the door, the accused took a firearm out of their bag and pointed it at the victim."

The victim then drove away and police were contacted.

A 39-year-old suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon and numerous weapons-related charges.

The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
