Another successful Coats for Kids campaign in the Sault
Organizers of CTV’s Coats for Kids campaign in the Sault are reporting another successful campaign this year. Hundreds of coats, boots, hats and mittens were given out to those in need of warm winter clothing for the season.
Volunteers have been hard at work over the last several weeks collecting donations and getting them ready for pick-up.
Cintas Uniform Services was responsible for sanitizing the winter gear. They told CTV News it is a way to support their community.
“For us to pick up and deliver these garments and sanitize and launder them at our facility, it’s really just for us to be a great community partner and to make a difference in Sault Ste. Marie,” said John Mullin with Cintas Uniform Services.
Organizers said with the absence of COVID-19 restrictions this year’s campaign was a more traditional one.
“We had around 600 coats that were generously donated by our community, which was amazing. We also had some boots, hats and mitts for everyone to choose from as well. We had tons of people come through the doors and get everyone with something, so that was great,” said Tayte Nowak with the clothing drive.
The winter gear was distributed on Saturday at the Delta hotel on St. Mary's River Drive.
This was the 27th year for Coats for Kids. Organizers said it was started when it became apparent that not all children had access to warm winter clothing.
