SUDBURY -- Algoma Public Health reported a news COVID-19 case Friday, the 34th case in the health unit's area since the pandemic began.
In this case, the health unit is asking people who were passengers on a recent Air Canada flight to contact them because they may have been exposed.
"Anyone who travelled on Air Canada flight 8317 on Sept. 22, 2020, seated in rows 4-8 inclusive should contact Algoma Public Health at 705-759-5404 (toll-free 1-866-892-0172, ext. 5404) or their local public health unit," Algoma Public Health said in a news release.
In keeping with new stricter privacy policies, the gender, age and location of the person who tested positive is not being released.
The person was tested Sept. 29 and the source of the infection is not known.
"Unknown exposure is evidence of ongoing community spread in Sault Ste. Marie and area and in southern Ontario," the health unit said. "Anyone who is ill, even with mild symptoms, must stay home and self-isolate away from others."
Under new guidelines announced Friday, members of the public are being told to not have close contact with people outside the immediate household.
"Avoid non-essential travel if possible," the release said. "All returning international travellers must stay home for 14 days."
Out of the 34 cases in the health unit area, 30 have been resolved with no related deaths reported so far.
