Provincial police in northwestern Ontario have seized “a significant amount of lacquer and alcohol” from a vehicle travelling on Highway 596 following a traffic stop last month.

The incident took place at about 5 p.m. on Dec. 22.

“Officers responded to an anonymous tip regarding a motor vehicle travelling to Whitedog, with the driver suspected of holding an incorrect class of licence,” said acting Ontario Provincial Police Sgt. Hayley Mcleary, in an email to CTV News.

“Officers successfully located and stopped the vehicle, confirming the report was accurate.”

The 60-year-old driver was charged with driving unaccompanied by qualified driver as a Class G1 licence holder and for driving a motor vehicle not equipped with a required ignition interlock device.

The vehicle involved was towed and impounded by police.

“During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers discovered the alcohol and lacquer,” said Mcleary.

Police seized the alcohol and lacquer. (The seized items are pictured above.)
