Anishnabek Police Service suspended two high-ranking employees Friday, February 15.

It is headquartered in Garden River First Nation, and serves over a dozen communities in Ontario.

CTV News has learned that Police Chief John W. Syrette and Deputy Police Chief Dave Whitlow have both been suspended from active duty effective immediately.

An email was sent out Friday by the police governing authority chair informing all staff of the suspension.  Inspector Marc Lesage has been named the acting police chief.

The Anishnabek Police Service has 12 detachments in 16 communities throughout Ontario, including five in northern Ontario.

CTV News asked the police authority chair for comment or explanation, but has not received a response.

Will provide more information when it becomes available.
