SUDBURY -- Laurentian University students got some special deliveries this week during a one-day event called Exam Wishes.

Former Laurentian students returned to the Sudbury campus and handed out $3,000 worth of free coffee and food to students during a stressful time.

Jayson Sokalski is fourth-year student who ordered a large pizza and requested it be delivered to his studying destination

"It helps us being able to study, stay focused, get the pizza brought right to us, and we can just worry about studying," said Sokalski.

Roughly 80 volunteers were on hand to take requests and deliver wishes throughout the school.

And the only thing students had to do was post on social media.

Amanda Goupil is the organizer of the event.

"We ask students to tweet or use their Instagram accounts to post photos of them with their study groups. And they’ll post whatever their wish is, and then from that point on, it goes through our headquarters team, and then they funnel the information to our volunteers, to then spread out all over campus to deliver those wishes," said Goupil.

Goupil says the goal for the one-day event is to help students in the middle of exams de-stress at such a difficult time.

And that’s exactly what it did for first year students Teah Bourget and Isabelle Racine.

"I ordered the strawberry refresher and the ginger cookie because that’s what I usually get every day, so it’s part of my study routine. I was going to get it anyways and I just got it for free, so it really helps with the stress," said Bourget.

"We ordered a pepperoni and cheese pizza because we were really stressed and hungry, so we decided that we wanted pizza to help us study and get motivated because we're all in university, so we don’t have a lot of money," said Racine.

Jason-Scott Benoit is a Laurentian University alumnus.

"Exams can definitely be stressful, especially for a first-year student, when you’re looking at having five courses in a calendar, writing five final exams. So, being able to have that uplifting gift or exam wish, even if it’s just a coffee or pizza, I think it goes a long way," said Benoit.

Volunteers say since this event started in 2017, more than 4,000 students have been treated to delivered goodies during exam time.
