Alleged impaired driver going wrong way on Hwy. 69, police say
A 42-year-old from French River is facing several charges – including impaired driving – after a northern Ontario traffic stop on Thursday.
On July 25 shortly after 7 p.m., members of the Nipissing West Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) detachment say they observed a vehicle travelling north in the southbound lanes of Highway 69, Servos Township, south of Sudbury.
“Police were able to safely stop the vehicle and the driver was arrested for impaired driving, then transported to the OPP detachment for further testing,” said police in a news release.
As a result of the investigation, the 42-year-old driver is facing two impaired driving charges along with a charge of dangerous operation of a vehicle.
The vehicle involved was impounded for seven days by police and the accused also received a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 4.
None of the allegations has been proven in court.
“If you see a possible impaired driver on our roadways, waterways, or trails, please ‘Make the Call,’ and dial 911 as impaired driving never ends well,” said police.
“Plan a way to get home safely.”
