Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie is kicking off National Indigenous History Month.

The university and Anishinaabe Academic Resource Centre are inviting everyone to participate in a variety of educational events throughout the month of June.

A flag raising ceremony was held in front of what was once the Shingwauk Residential School to mark the occasion.

This year, the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students Association flag was raised.

A series of events will take place at the university campus on Queen Street East this month, including a speakers series and Anishinaabe language classes.

National Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrations are set for June 21st.
