Algoma University kicks off Indigenous History Month

Algoma University in Sault Ste. Marie is kicking off National Indigenous History Month.

The university and Anishinaabe Academic Resource Centre are inviting everyone to participate in a variety of educational events throughout the month of June.

A flag raising ceremony was held in front of what was once the Shingwauk Residential School to mark the occasion.

This year, the Shingwauk Anishinaabe Students Association flag was raised.

A series of events will take place at the university campus on Queen Street East this month, including a speakers series and Anishinaabe language classes.

National Indigenous Peoples’ Day celebrations are set for June 21st.
