SUDBURY -- The man accused in a high-profile Sudbury murder case was before the court again on Thursday on a different charge.

Robert Steven Wright was charged with possession of child pornography two months after being arrested in connection to a brutal killing in the Nickel City 21 years ago.

After police laid the child pornography charge in February, Wright's lawyers, Berk Keaney and Michael Venturi, said in a statement:

"This is clearly pure optics. On the day of his arrest, December 11th, 2018, the police searched Mr. Wright's residence and did not find any relevant image or video. This charge is based on a single typed document."

Wright appeared via video from the district jail on Thursday over the child pornography charge.

He’s also facing a second-degree murder charge in connection to the Sweeney case, which is still working its way through the court process.

It’s not known when the case will proceed to trial.

The matter of child pornography possession was adjourned for two weeks to allow for legal discussions between the defence and the Crown.
