A sweet weekend in the Municipality of Powassan
CTV Northern Ontario: Powassan maple syrup
SUDBURY -- The Powassan Maple Syrup Festival draws thousands of people every year to its community south of North Bay, however, because of the COVID-19 pandemic, all activities will be shared online.
Kathie Hogan from 250 Clark, the local community hub, is excited about the weekend.
"We designated Saturday, pancake Saturday and the Municipality of Powassan is inviting you to make pancakes and get creative with it," said Hogan.
"You can take pictures of pancakes on your roof, on the deck, anywhere you want."
Pictures collected from people making pancakes and a wide-array of cooking classes on Saturday will be televised on Maple TV, 250 Clark’s Facebook page.
On Sunday, the community is hosting a Maple Sap Run.
Hogan says organizers of the maple syrup festival are encouraging people to walk or run 5k or 10k and then enter their results online.
"Take a picture at the end of the race," said Hogan.
"Try not to put the huffing and the puffing in the photo and send it to the Maple Sap Run Facebook page. You’ll be getting a medal later on."
Money from the run will go to support youth recreation at 250 Clark and mental health initiatives at the North Bay Regional Health Centre.
