85 drug, firearm charges laid in drug bust at Sault Ste. Marie apartment
A total of 85 drug and firearm-related charges have been laid against five suspects following a raid at a Sault Ste. Marie apartment, police say.
The drug bust started around 8:45 a.m. July 26 when detectives searched an apartment in a multi-unit building in the 400 block of Second Line West.
"Five individuals were located inside the residence and arrested," Sault police said in a news release Saturday.
Two loaded semi-automatic guns, a handgun and rifle, were seized along with more than $47,000 in drugs.
Officers seized about 202 grams of suspected fentanyl, 146 grams of suspected cocaine, 14 grams of suspected methamphetamine and 104 oxycodone pills.
Digital scales, packaging materials, cash, 60 rounds of ammunition and a drill that had been reported stolen were also seized during the search.

Two women and three men ranging in age from 34 to 49 are being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
One of the suspects, a 49-year-old man, is the only one charged with failing to comply with a probation order.

"Members of the drug enforcement unit and crime suppression unit work cooperatively to investigate all aspects of investigations involving drug matters, organized crime, human trafficking, high-risk offenders and street crime within the jurisdiction of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service," police said.
"The units also work on special projects targeting drug matters and street-level crimes and take part in joint enforcement projects with other agencies across the province. Some of the assigned officers also have mandated responsibilities provincially to assist with investigations throughout the province involving outlaw motorcycle gangs (BEU), asset forfeiture (PAFU) and intelligence (CISO)."
