TIMMINS -- Ontario Provincial Police in Temiskaming Shores laid a child pornography charge this week against the chair of the Northeastern Catholic District School Board.
The accused, 68-year-old Richard Brassard of Englehart, is also a former teacher, principal, and was once the mayor of his town.
He was arrested after an investigation that started September 12 from alleged incidents that occurred between August 7 and September 6.
Brassard is accused of accessing child pornography online.
Tricia Stefanic-Weltz is the director of Northeastern Catholic District School Board.
"Northeastern Catholic District School Board is aware of the charges against Mr. Brassard. Certainly, we share the concern of our entire community. We are cooperating with the Ontario Provincial Police, and as information is known and were able to, we will share it with our school communities, said Stefanic-Weltz.
Police were alerted after the school board found the material on a computer while doing regular system updates.
Brassard was released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court in Temiskaming Shores on October 29.
