SUDBURY -- Sudbury police say they have arrested and charged a 43-year-old male daycare employee with sexual assault of a preschool-aged child.

Authorities say they were contacted by a concerned parent on Jan. 13 and the case was assigned to detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division and Internet Child Exploitation Unit.

The accused, who reportedly was employed at a daycare on John Street, was arrested on Jan. 25 and charged with:

  • Sexual assault
  • Sexual interference
  • Sexual exploitation
  • Obstruct a peace officer

Police say that the man knowingly lied to detectives concerning his involvement with children at the daycare, thereby obstructing the investigation.

The accused was held for bail and attended court Sunday to answer to the charges. He was granted bail and is scheduled to return to court Feb. 12 at 9:30 a.m. in courtroom B.

Anyone with information relevant to this case is asked to contact Detective Constable Hutton of our Criminal Investigations Division at 705-675-9171 extension 2310 or Crime Stoppers.
